SIGHTS OF THE TOWN

1. Museum of Limbaži, 7 Burtnieku street. T. +37164070632, 26351433 At the beginning of the 19th century „Rīga Town Council new palace” or manor superindentant house was built. Nowadays historical exposition, exhibition halls and craft salon are located here. (Museum opened: Tue.-Sun. 10.00-18.00 (peak season May-September), out os season Tue.-Sun. 10.00-17.00, Mon.-closed, entrance fee: 0.40/0.60 LVL)

2. Ruins of Limbaži Medieval Castle and a Panorama Tower, Burtnieku Street. T. +37164070632, 26351433 The castle built at the 1st half of the 13 th century, in 15-16 th century Riga Archbishop residence was there. The castle was destroyed during wars in 17-18 th century. The main gate displays several significant details characteristic of the Gothic period as well as fragments of lift –off bars. In 1999, the conservation of the castle ruins was started and a panorama tower was built in the place of the portal tower. A spring runs out of the northern hillside of the hill fort.

3. Ķezberkalns. Burtnieku Street An ancient Livonian hill fort with settlement. In 1961, a cemetery for soldiers of the Soviet Army killed in the Second World War was set up there |

4. St. John’s Ev.- Lutheran Church, Lībiešu Street. T. 4023849 A stonewall church was built in 1679 – 1680 according to the design of R. Bindenshu, financed by Riga Town council. The building has suffered in several fire works. Inside the church objects of different styles of art can be seen - pulpit, altarpiece e.t.c. Between the church and the hospital (built at the beginning of 20th century) visitors can see the defence moat of the Livonian castle. |

5. Monument to the Battles for Freedom of Latvia (1914 – 1920), Lībiešu Street The monument, built according to a design by architect P.Kundziņš in 1923, can be seen in the garden of St. John’s Ev.-Lutheran Church. |

6. St. Laurentius Catholic Church, K. Barona Street.T. +37129340272 The church was built in 1996. (Architects I. Jekale, D. Straubergs). This is the first Catholic Church built in Latvia after regaining the independence of the Republic of Latvia. |

7. Christ Enlightenment Orthodox Church, Klostera Street. T. +37164023538 The church was built in the Neo – Byzantine style in 1900 – 1903 on the territory of the ancient cloister. This is the biggest Orthodox Church in Vidzeme region outside the capital city Riga. |

8. Monument to the composer Baumaņu Kārlis, who has written The Latvian National Anthem. The bronze monument is dedicated to the author of the Latvian national anthem. The monument was unveiled in 1998. (Sculptors Z. Rapa, J. Rapa) |

9. Ģildes Street Street was developed during Medieval ages, as one of the circle streets inside the defensive wall. The building was renovated at the II half of 18th century. The guilds house was located there. |

10. Mūru Street The place of the former Town Defensive wall can be found. The unpaved street at the I st half of 20 th century was called „the pigs street”. |

11. Vienības Park, between RīgasStreet and Parka Street The park was opened in 1892. The park included an open – air stage. Nowadays, there is also the Theatre House and sculptures by sculptor K. Baumanis as well as Bučotaji (the Kissers, sculptor O.Šilova) in the park |

12. The graveyard on Jūras Street You can visit gravestone to the composer Baumaņu Kārlis (sculptor G. Šķilter, 1920.) here. |

13. The old-town Square named after Baumaņu Kārlis Square. The square and street network was formed in the Middle ages. There is the Limbaži Social Gathering House (built in 1850) and the Limbaži Town Hall built at the end of the 19 th century, where currently Limbaži City Council is located. |

14. The wall- paintings in „Old Town Hall” , Burtnieku Street 4. T. +37164070632, 26351433 The house is built at the II half of 18th century, owned by the merchant Braunshveig. In the middle of the 19th century Town Council bought the building. On stairway Art Deco design is renovated, on the floor of the mansard halls late rokoko style elements are restored. |

15. “Swedish garisson Church” The house was built at the 17th century as a part of the fortress. In 18th century it was used as a storehouse. |

15. Pils Street At the beginning of the last century the blacksmith L. Šķilters smithy was there. His artistic decorations are still found on many facades. |

16. Lake Lielezers of Limbaži At the coast there is a beach, accommodation place “Limbaži”, rowing base. |

17. The Old Fire Station, Torņa Street. The house built at the II half of 19th century in the so called “Brick-style”- characteristic for the period of historicism. |

18. Nature Trail along Lake Lielezers of Limbaži.
The trail will be located in the North-Eastern part of the lake. Recreation places, children playgrounds, swimming place, bird watching tower will be placed along the trail. |
